HOW MUCH SKIN TO SHOW IN BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHY
A common misconception about boudoir photography is that you must bare it all. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. What’s closest to the truth is that in any boudoir experience you choose how much or how little skin you’re comfortable showing.
It all comes down to what you decide.
Think about it like this. If you were alone in private room that was safe and free of all criticism, what would you wear? How would you express femininity? What have you wanted to wear, but hold back on trying because of shame or fear?
Whatever you envision, go with it. Yes, there will be a photographer with you, but we’re all professionals. The last thing you need to worry about is feeling shame. Will you feel uncomfortable? At first, yes. With the right photographer, the discomfort will fade.
Still unsure how much skin to bare? Below are four levels:
Full nude: Not wearing any piece of clothing. Always posed in an artist way, and never any full-frontal photographs.
Implied nude: You appear to be nude, but any nudity is partially or completely obscured. Key areas are covered or hidden through strategic posing, props, lighting, or selective framing. The focus is on creating a suggestive, sensual, or artistic image that implies nudity without fully revealing it.
Semi-nude: Partially unclothed, with some areas of the body exposed while others remain covered. This involves wearing minimal clothing or lingerie. Basically, you’re revealing more than fully clothed but less than full nudity.
No nudity: Mostly clothed. Maybe only exposing your legs or arms. You’re wearing a robe, an oversized shirt, slip dress or jeans with a tank top.
There are many ways to achieve the boudoir look that’s right for you. One that makes you feel secure, your best and in your own feminine expression. If you find yourself stuck, browse my portfolio or the internet.
