4 REASONS WHY A BOUDOIR PHOTOSHOOT MAY NOT BE RIGHT FOR YOU … yet.
Boudoir photography has become increasingly popular the last few of years. More women are celebrating themselves, their sensuality and accepting that doing something selfishly for them is perfectly acceptable. There are countless reasons to book a boudoir or portrait photoshoot. However, many professional boudoir studios in the San Francisco Bay Area (and world) forget to mention the reasons why you should not book one…yet.
Yes, a boudoir photoshoot is a fun and liberating experience. But, not everyone does it for the right reasons. Some might do it because of its popularity or because a friend/significant other is pressuring. The last thing you want to do is spend a chunk of money on something you’re not ready to do or for the wrong reasons.
Here are some main reasons why you may want to reconsider booking a boudoir photoshoot:
You're not comfortable with any form of nudity—implied, partial or full. Boudoir photography is all about celebrating the human body. How much skin you’re comfortable showing is entirely up to you. But, if you're not comfortable with showing a lot of skin, a boudoir photoshoot may not be right for you. At least not now. Opt for a portrait photoshoot instead. A portrait photoshoot is a great way to dip your toes and experience what being in front of a professional camera feels like…before diving into a full on boudoir experience.
You're doing it for someone else. If you're only considering a boudoir photoshoot because you want to impress someone else, you may want to reconsider. Boudoir photography should be about celebrating YOU first. Remember, you’re the one who will be photographed and going through the actual experience. Doing it for a signification other is a good reason to do one, but it should be second—not first.
Financially, you’re not ready to invest in the experience. Boudoir photoshoots can be expensive. A lot of time goes into preparing for the shoot, such as taking a day off from work, selecting the right lingerie, getting your hair and makeup done. If you're not ready to invest in the experience, wait until you are. A boudoir photographer will always be around once you’re able to comfortably invest in one.
You're not prepared to see yourself in a different light through someone else’s eyes. This can be a challenging experience for some. A professional photoshoot is much different than taking a selfie that focuses on your face alone. Yes, your photographer will direct and pose you in ways that accentuate your best features. However, if you're not prepared to see yourself through the eyes of a professional or face any emotions that may arise during or after, a boudoir experience might not be the best option for you.
Yes, boudoir photography is a fun, invigorating experience that will release large amounts of dopamine through your brain and body. An unforgettable experience I firmly believe every woman must try once in their lifetime. It's also important to remember that it's not for everyone. Remember, you should only do what makes YOU happy and if YOU want to.
